So Ghost in The Shell starring Scarlett Johansson is now playing in theatres and you should definitely go see it because it is awesome. The movie is a Hollywood adaptation of an anime of the same name released back in 1995.. Set in 2029, Ghost in The Shell is known to be a groundbreaking movie of its time, toying with the idea of human consciousness and artificial intelligence -- a recurring theme in the cyberpunk genre.
I am going to give you a list of movies to watch after (or before) you watch Ghost in The Shell, or if you don't have much else to do and prefer to stay in the comfort of your bed.
1. The Matrix

Probably most of you have seen this flick, but i'd still like to include it in this list. Playing with the question of what is real and what is not real, The Matrix is thought-provoking and also entertaining
2. Total Recall

Total Recall is a film starring Arnold Schwarzenneger as a secret spy fighting an evil corporation on Mars. That alone is enough reason to spend two hours of your time watching it. Total Recall is a classic among movie goers. With its somewhat confusing story line and its disturbingly comical special effects (and not to forget, the three boobed lady), Total Recall is one not to be missed.
3. Ghost in The Shell

Of course, the original release of Ghost in The Shell. Don't worry, despite being the main inspiration for the 2017 version of the anime, you would still get a kick watching the two movies as they have pretty much different main plot.
4. Akira

Before Ghost in The Shell, there was Akira. Serving as a social commentary of the danger of nuclear weapon, Akira's Neo-Tokyo is a representation of what our world would look like if nuclear war had actually happened. Akira is a must-see if you are a fan of the Cyberpunk genre (even if you are not).
5. Blade Runner

The fore-runner of the Cyberpunk genre, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner is a masterpiece. A former blade runner, Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, is assigned a task to hunt a rogue group of replicant as he questions his own state of humanity. Set in the near future dystopian Los Angeles, Blade Runner gives the audience a beautiful juxtaposition of 'high tech low life'.
